Ride a horse on the beach and enjoy the sunset. Plan to take your riding vacation here, as there are many campsites that cater to riders and their horses. Several state parks are set up specifically for you, your horse and your trailer.

Bandon

Bullards State Park is located two miles north of Bandon. The horse camp has eight primitive sites with easy access to the beach and dunes. Each has 12′ x 12′ with chain gates.

Maximum 1 horse per stall. 3 sites with double wood stalls for 2
horses; 5 sites with quadruple wood stalls for 4 horses.

Port Orford

Cape Blanco State Park

Cape Blanco State Park is located 9 miles north of Port Orford. There are 6 miles of riding trails and a 150-acre open riding area. There is easy beach
access.
The horse camp has 8 primitive sites, 6 single-horse corrals; 2 double-horse
corrals; 2 pull-through sites each with double stalls for 4 horses.

Crescent City, CA

There are horse riding opportunities in the California redwoods state parks.
Tolowa Dunes and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park are two areas to camp and ride.

The Little Bald Hills Trail is stock-ready primitive camp. Potable water is available. The trail is 10 miles round trip with the trailhead located off Howland Hill Road, 7.5 mi east of Crescent City, or 1.5 mi off South Fork Road east of Hiouchi. The trail begins in an old-growth forest and then gradually ascends 1,800 ft. A mixed conifer forest bordering prairie lands replaces the redwoods shortly into the hike.

The Mill Creek Horse Trail is available for day use only and is 5 miles roundtrip through an old growth redwood forest. From June through September, when the water flow is low, this trail can be accessed from the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park campground. Access is available year round from Howland Hill Road. Further south, in the Redwood National Park and California Redwood State Park there are extensive trails for riding and camping. There are two trailheads, the Orick Trail and the Redwood Creek Trail. The trails have several options ranging from 7 to 32 miles. Elam Camp is available for riders to camp, but 44 Camp is restricted to backpacking, only.

Reedsport – Winchester Bay

Wild Mare Horse Camp

Wild Mare Horse Camp activities include dune & beach access for horseback riding and camping. Day use area nearby is for picnicking and horse back riding for small groups. Hitching post and corrals are also available. Coin operated showers are located at nearby Horsfall campground.

Nearby is the Wildmare Horse Trail, a 1 mile trail to the beach. While nearby campgrounds are oriented towards ATV activities, Wild Mare Horse Camp is located in the dunes area that is closed to motor vehicles and is appropriate for horses and riding. Reservations are available online.

The campground located in shore pine, Douglas-fir and huckleberry, is ½ mile from the Pacific Ocean and beach and is a popular place to horseback riding.

Wild Mare Horse Camp is located in the famous Oregon Dunes Recreation Area between Coos Bay / North Bend and Reedsport.

Directions: From Coos Bay / North Bend, proceed north on route 101 for 1.5 miles. From Reedsport, proceed south for 22 miles. Turn west at the Horsfall Dunes and Beach road sign at Jordan Cove Road and proceed 1 mile, turning right on Transpacific Highway. Travel 100 feet, turning right on Horsfall Beach Road. Travel 1 & 1/2 miles down Horsfall Beach Road to a left turn.
