Kuchel Visitor Center<\/h5>\n<p>If approaching the redwoods from the south (from Eureka), then stop at the\u00a0Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center, located in Orick, CA, just off US 101. \u00a0The always helpful rangers will be able to assist you with sightseeing as well as obtaining any necessary permits for the more popular restrictive hike.<br \/>\nInteractive exhibits are available and the beach is right out back. \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/redw\/planyourvisit\/visitorcenters.htm#CP_JUMP_281946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">More information<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5>Lady Bird Johnson Grove and Tall Trees Trail<\/h5>\n<p>One of the most popular sights in the Redwoods is the <a href=\"http:\/\/redwoodhikes.com\/RNP\/LBJ.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail<\/a>. \u00a0And for the more adventurous, there is the Tall Trees Trail, which requires a free permit. \u00a0For information (and a free permit), visit the \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/redw\/planyourvisit\/visitorcenters.htm#CP_JUMP_281946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thomas H. Drury Scenic Parkway<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/bigtreesign.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-732 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/bigtreesign-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"Big Tree Sign\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/bigtreesign-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/bigtreesign.jpg 500w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/223;\" \/><\/a>There is absolutely no excuse for missing this. \u00a0It is shorter, by mileage, than staying on US 101. \u00a0It will take you longer, not because the speed is lower, but because of the views.<\/p>\n<p>The Parkway&#8217;s two exits are at US 101 mile markers 753 and 765. \u00a0The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/redw\/planyourvisit\/visitorcenters.htm#CP_JUMP_281936\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prairie Creek Visitors Center<\/a> is near the southern end of the park. \u00a0Be sure to stop by Big Tree Wayside, which is tough to miss, since the road travels right by it. \u00a0If ready for a hike, look for information to the 3.2 mile <a href=\"http:\/\/redwoodhikes.com\/PrairieCreek\/BigTree.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prairie Creek Trail<\/a> at the visitors center.<\/p>\n<p>For those planning on extensive hiking, the <a href=\"http:\/\/redwoodhikes.com\/Store\/RNSPstore.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Redwoods Hikes Trail Maps<\/a> are highly recommended.<\/p>\n<p>If wanting to extend the drive, the Coastal Drive is worthwhile. \u00a0At the north, it starts just south of the Klamath River as route D7. \u00a0If not in a hurry, stay on D7 and take the long way around Flint Ridge along the Klamath Basin and the Pacific. \u00a0A stop at Lost Rock Boulders and High Bluff Overlook is worthwhile. \u00a0If wanting to shorten the trip, skip this loop and turn from D7 onto the Coastal Drive. \u00a0It is possible to backtrack a short distance to see High Bluff Overlook.<\/p>\n<p>The southern end of the Coastal Drive ends on the Newton B.
