The horse camp has eight primitive sites with easy access to the beach and dunes. There are 6 miles of riding trails and a 150-acre open riding area. Potable water is available. The trail is 10 miles round trip with the trailhead located off Howland Hill Road, 7.5 mi east of Crescent City, or 1.5 mi off South Fork Road east of Hiouchi. The trail begins in an old-growth forest and then gradually ascends 1,800 ft. A mixed conifer forest bordering prairie lands replaces the redwoods shortly into the hike.<\/p>\n<p>The Mill Creek Horse Trail is available for day use only and is 5 miles roundtrip through an old growth redwood forest. From June through September, when the water flow is low, this trail can be accessed from the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park campground. Access is available year round from Howland Hill Road. Download a brochure (with map) at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/pages\/413\/files\/JedSmithRedwoodsSP_WebBrochure2014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park<\/a>. \u00a0A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/pages\/413\/files\/JedediahSmithRedwoodsSP_CampMap2019.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">campground map<\/a> is also available.<\/p>\n<p>Further south, in the Redwood National Park and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parks.ca.gov\/?page_id=414\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">California Redwood State Park<\/a> there are extensive trails for riding and camping. There are two trailheads, the Orick Trail and the Redwood Creek Trail. The trails have several options ranging from 7 to 32 miles. Elam Camp is available for riders to camp, but 44 Camp is restricted to backpacking, only.<\/p>\n<h3>Reedsport &#8211; Winchester Bay<\/h3>\n<h3>Wild Mare Horse Camp<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_10082.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1242 size-medium lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_10082-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_10082-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_10082-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/orcalcoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_10082.jpg 576w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/225;\" \/><\/a>Wild Mare Horse Camp activities include dune &amp; beach access for horseback riding and camping. Day use area nearby is for picnicking and horse back riding for small groups. Hitching post and corrals are also available. Coin operated showers are located at nearby Horsfall campground.<\/p>\n<p>Nearby is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/siuslaw\/recreation\/recarea\/?recid=42665\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wildmare Horse Trail<\/a>, a 1 mile trail to the beach. While nearby campgrounds are oriented towards ATV activities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/siuslaw\/recreation\/recarea\/?recid=42643\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wild Mare Horse Camp<\/a> is located in the dunes area that is closed to motor vehicles and is appropriate for horses and riding. From Reedsport, proceed south for 22 miles. Turn west at the Horsfall Dunes and Beach road sign at Jordan Cove Road and proceed 1 mile, turning right on Transpacific Highway. Travel 100 feet, turning right on Horsfall Beach Road.
